Why Carini, Sicily Is A Dream Place To Live

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲! In today’s video, we delve into the enchanting world of Sicily through the eyes of our niece and Domenico. They’ll share their personal experiences and reveal why Carini, Sicily, has become their beloved home. Get ready to be inspired by their passion for this Mediterranean gem.

Chiara and Domenico, a dynamic couple, have found their home in the picturesque town of Carini, Sicily. Originally from the United States, their journey to Sicily has been one of cultural exploration and personal fulfillment.

The couple is captivated by Sicily’s unique charm and slower pace of life. They appreciate the diversity of its people, the rich cultural heritage, and the distinct way of living. Unlike the fast-paced lifestyle of the United States, Sicily offers a serene and relaxed atmosphere.

Chiara has strong family ties to Sicily, with her grandparents, aunt, and cousins residing there. On the other hand, Domenico has lived in Carini for two decades, immersing himself in the local culture and enjoying the beauty of his hometown.

Both Chiara and Domenico contribute to the family-owned Pizzeria Mileci in Torretta. This family-run establishment has been serving authentic Sicilian cuisine for over 27 years. The pizzeria is a source of pride for the family and a testament to their love for Sicily.

When they have time, Chiara and Domenico love to explore the island’s many treasures. With its charming old town and stunning coastline, Cefalu is one of their favorite destinations. They also enjoy visiting Scopello, San Vito, and other picturesque towns.

Food is a significant part of Sicilian culture, and Chiara and Domenico are no exception. They both have their favorite pizzas, with Chiara opting for the Biancaneve and Domenico preferring the “old woman’s face.” These traditional Sicilian pizzas reflect the island’s culinary heritage.

Chiara and Domenico plan to continue their journey between Sicily and the United States in the future. They are grateful for their experiences and are excited to see what the future holds.

Why Carini, Sicily Is A Dream Place To Live

Carol:  This sweet young couple tells us about their life in Carini, Sicily.  Meet Chiara and Domenico.  Where do you live and where are you from?

Where do you live and where are you from?

Chiara:  Okay.  I’m from the States; Pennsylvania, a little town called Montrose.  And at the moment, I am here in Sicily, but I’m originally from the States.

Carol:  Excellent.  And Domenico?

Domenico: I stay here in Carini, let’s say on the periphery of Carini, a very beautiful town.  And I have lived here for 20 years.  It’s very beautiful.  And for the moment, I am here.  I finished my studies, and I am here to enjoy my town a little.

Why Chiara & Domenico like Sicily

Carol:  Guys, tell me, why you like Sicily?

Chiara:  Well, Sicily is its own little world.  It’s definitely very different than the States.  A lot of different people here, different mindsets, a different culture.  It’s a different way of living life here.  And I just love how different it is – than how it is in the States, so fast-paced.  Here, it is very slow.  A lot of people living their life and loving it here, and it’s just, you know, a different world.

Chiara Family Connections in Sicily

Carol:  Do you have family here?

Chiara: I do.  I have my grandpa, my aunt, my cousins, and then a lot of cousins on my mom’s side.

Where do you guys work

Carol:  That’s great.  Now, where do you guys work?

Chiara:  Well, at the moment, I just help out a little bit at the restaurant.

Carol:  And the name?

Domenico’s family and pizza restaurant

Chiara:  Pizzeria Mileci.

Carol:  And where is that at?

Chiara:  It is in Torretta, a small town in Palermo.

Carol:  Very good.  Domenico, tell us about your family and your pizzeria, your restaurant.

Domenico:  So as Chiara was saying, we have this local place in Torretta, a small town of 4,000 people, very small.  And we have been there for 27 years.  When my father was 20 years old, he decided to open this location.  He came back from America, and he decided to open this place.

And my family is very happy to stay here.  We like Sicily a lot because Sicily has everything: the sea, the mountains, great food.  We have everything ~ what no one in the world has.  We are very content to stay here because Sicily, as my father says, is the garden of the world.

What are your favorite travel destinations, and why do you enjoy them?

Carol:  Okay.  Beautiful, wonderful, and that’s very true.  Where do you guys like to go?  Where have you traveled, and what are some of your favorite places?

Chiara:  One of my favorite places here in Sicily is Cefalu.  It’s a very cute town, very touristy, just a beautiful, antique place with a lot of different things.  Another place I like is Scopello.  There’s places, San Vito, there’s so many different places with so many different stories.

Traveling to London

Carol:  Have you gone to any other countries in Europe?

Chiara:  Yes, I have.  I have been to London.

Carol:  Excellent.  When did you go there?

Chiara:  I went there this past week for a few days.

Cultural Differences and Food Preferences

Carol:  Oh, okay.  What did you like about London?

Chiara:  I loved how that there, it’s also a different part of the world.  They drive on the other side of the road.

Carol:  Oh, my.

Chiara:  So very different people, they’re very stern, but you know, every place has their own different culture.

Carol:  That’s true.  Did you like the food or was it not as good as Italy?

Chiara:  No, not as good as Italy, but.

Domenico’s Hobbies

Carol:  Okay.  Domenico, tell us about your hobbies.

Domenico:  Nice.  My hobbies are great and very particular.  And many say they also require courage.  I like to motocross.  I like to explore our mountains, our courses.  I like it at the beach and also in the mountains.  I like to explore any place that is in contact with nature.

When I have free time, I spend it doing this.  I dress, I get on my motorbike, and I go.  I go for the adventure.  There is never a goal or plan.  If there is a beautiful place, I stop to enjoy it.  I sit and look at the nature.  I’ll take a few photos to capture the memory.  I like to explore nature in this way; with my motorbike, with my friends.  I’d say this has been my hobby ever since I was little.

Favorite Foods and Pizza Toppings

Carol:  Okay.  That sounds wonderful.  You get to enjoy God’s handiwork.  Well, I was going to ask you guys, what are your favorite foods to eat?  What do you like to eat the best?

Chiara:  Oh, man.

Carol:  Do you like the pizza here?

Chiara:  Oh, yes.

Carol:  What is your favorite kind of topping for pizza?

Chiara:  I would say I usually get a pizza here that’s called Biancaneve.

Carol:  Oh.

Chiara:  It has no sauce.  It’s the cheese, with fresh garlic on top, and pepperoni, which is called here salamino piccante.

Carol:  Okay.  What’s your favorite pizza, Dominico?

Domenico:  My favorite pizza is called Faccia di Vecchia, Old Woman’s Face.

Carol:  What’s that?

Domenico:  There are tomatoes, anchovies, onions, caciocavallo, and breadcrumbs.  It’s so good.  You could say it’s a Sicilian pizza or Palermitana.  It’s very good.

Chiara & Domenico share their future plans

Carol:  Nice.  Wow.  That sounds great.  Okay.  Guys, what are your future plans?  What do you have planned in the next couple of weeks and the next month?  What are you guys going to be doing?

Chiara:  Well, in the next couple weeks we’re going to go back to the States and stay there for a few months.  And then eventually, this summer, I’m going to be coming back down to Sicily.  He’ll be back here in February.  We’ll see where God takes us from there.

Carol:  That’s wonderful.  Well, thank you so much for spending some time with us and letting us get to know you some.  Have a blessed day.  Take care.

Chiara:  Thank you.

Domenico:  Bye-bye.
