With its rich historical landmarks, breathtaking landscapes, and warm-hearted people, Carini is a place that captivates your heart from the moment you arrive.

A Historical Haven: Carini’s Rich Past

Carini is steeped in centuries of history, and one of its most significant landmarks is the stunning Carini Castle (Castello La Grua-Talamanca di Carini), dating back to the 11th century. Standing tall amidst the town’s lush greenery, the castle is a powerful symbol of Carini’s cultural heritage and has borne witness to numerous historical events. It’s a place where history comes to life, inviting visitors to step back in time and marvel at its medieval architecture.

The old town of Carini is equally enchanting. A Personal Journey: Growing Up in Carini

  1. Summers at Baglio di Carini: One of my most treasured childhood memories is playing in the courtyard of Baglio di Carini, where my Zio Giachino and Zia Pippina lived. The Baglio di Carini was a traditional Sicilian spot and the hub of family life—cousins raced through the arches, nonnas cooked vast pots of ragù, and the scent of citrus trees filled the air.

Today, my cousins still own the property, keeping our family’s legacy alive.

  1. Living with Nonno Rosario and Nonna Gaetana: My grandparents’ home was a sanctuary of love and tradition. Every summer, we’d stay with them, waking up to the sound of church bells and the aroma of freshly baked bread. Nonna Gaetana’s kitchen was a magical place—where handmade cavatelli pasta and slow-cooked caponata were prepared with generations of wisdom.
  2. Coastal Adventures: Sea Urchins and Sunsets: No Sicilian summer was complete without swimming in the Tyrrhenian Sea and foraging for ricci di mare (sea urchins). We’d crack them open on the rocks, squeeze lemon over their briny flesh, and savor them right there on the shore—a taste of pure, unfiltered Sicily.
  3. The Unforgettable 1987 Family Trip: In 1987, our entire family reunited in Sicily for a memorable vacation. We took the ferry from Messina to Calabria to visit my sister, Stella, creating memories that still bring a smile to my face. Each return trip since has been a pilgrimage to my roots, a reminder of why this land feels like home.

The Heart of Sicily: The People of Carini

But beyond the beautiful landscapes and rich history, what truly makes Carini special is its people. I have countless memories of spending time with family and friends, and it’s these connections that make Sicily truly unforgettable. The people of Carini are warm, welcoming, and proud of their heritage. They embrace their visitors with open arms, sharing their stories and traditions, making you feel like part of their family.

Carini is more than a beautiful Sicilian town—it’s a living, breathing story of history, love, and connection. Whether you’re wandering its ancient streets, lounging on its sun-kissed beaches, or sharing a meal with family, Carini has a way of capturing your heart.

For me, Carini is more than just a place on a map; it’s a home to my heart. From the quaint streets lined with history to the crystal-clear waters of the Tyrrhenian, from the mouthwatering cuisine to the warmth of the people, Carini offers everything you could want in a place to live.

It’s a town where history and modern life coexist in harmony and where every visit feels like a step back in time while embracing the future. If you’re looking for a peaceful, beautiful, and authentic place to call home, Carini is the place to be.
